These blogs are designed to provide our physicians and followers with insights they can use to better their medical billing practices. Now and then, however, something happens that causes me to deviate from that path. Such was the case this past weekend when I had a proud father moment. My 14 year old daughter, Abby, worked for JCL for the first time!
JCL Medical Systems is a family owned business that has been in operation for almost thirty years. My wife and I bought the company in 2008 from the previous owner, Reta Foley, my mother in law. Just like my daughter, my wife worked for JCL throughout the late 80s and early 90s as a way to help the business and as a way to earn money for university. So, today was a neat day for me because I got to see firsthand how the cycle of life can repeat itself.
Working towards a Better World
I’m also very proud of my daughter because of why she wants to begin working at JCL. She’s not interested in buying the latest pair of shoes or a new computer. Rather, she’s trying to raise money for a volunteer trip she wants to take next summer. Her goal is to travel to rural China where she will have the opportunity to build schools and teach young children English. She’ll learn about economic disparity in China and the challenges it causes. This trip is organized through MeToWe which is part of the larger Free The Children organization started by Craig and Marc Kielburger. Their goal is to “empower a generation to shift the world from ‘me’ to ‘we’”. They want to encourage young people to think about how they act, the choices they make, and the experiences they engage in. If Abby is any indication, these organizations are doing a great job with their mandate.
